FATS
Fats are
the body’s main source of fuel at rest and during prolonged submaximal
exercise. Dietary fats provide energy, particularly in endurance sports and
provide essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins. Fats are stored in the
adipose tissue. Oil, fatty meat, nuts, butter, cheese and milk are all examples
of fats.
Submaximal exercise 50% of fats would be used during low intensity exercises because it requires more oxygen then carbohydrates but less oxygen then protein. Maximal exercise No fats would be used during maximal intensity exercises because it requires more oxygen. |

PROTEIN
Protein is essential
for growth, maintenance and repair of the muscle and body tissue. It is stored
in the muscles. Protein is not a significant food fuel when it comes to
supplying energy because it requires a greater amount of oxygen to break down. The
only time protein is used, is when carbohydrates and fats are fully depleted.
Lean meat, poultry, eggs, fish and legumes and grains are all examples of protein.
Submaximal exercise A very low percentage of protein would be used in low intensity exercises as it requires so much oxygen to break down. Maximal exercise No protein would be required in maximal exercise because it needs the most amount of oxygen to break down. |
